Is the plague from God, or no??

I have seen many cessationists  loudly proclaiming that “Coronavirus is NOT FROM God”. If they have not “heard” this from God the Holy Spirit himself, then they must find support for this in scripture. Scripture which says God is the same yesterday, today and forever.

Scripture tells us that around the throne of God the creatures cry “Holy, Holy, Holy”, day and night, night and day.

Scripture also tells us that David sinned by counting the kingdom of Israel and God ASKED him if he wanted War, or Famine, or a Plague as his punishment. David chose the plague because he believed that it was better for his kingdom to be in the hand of a merciful God, than to have to rely on human neighbors for food in famine, or enemies in war.

There were also plagues that God sent upon Egypt, one of which was boils, another of which was the death of every firstborn.

Of course the arguments of Calvinists and other cessationist types is, THAT is the OLD Testament, under the new convenant of GRACE there is no of kind condemnation.

Sure, unless you read Acts. Ananais and Saphira, were struck down dead when they lied to Peter. Jesus cursed a fig tree because it did not have any fruit, even in the season it should not have had fruit, and killed it. Herod was stuck down dead and eaten up with worms instantly after he had murdered James and allowed the people to call him god.

Ok, that is where the “cessationist” thing comes in, in that all those “signs” ended with the death of the last apostle. “God doesn’t do that stuff anymore.”

God is the same yesterday, today and forever. Hmm.

Paul said that his hands were clean because he had preached the “full counsel’ of God. A holy and supernatural God can not coexist with idolatry.  That is a constant, recurring truth in the Old and New Testament.

Yet we sit, in the middle of this pandemic, and pray that God will save our job, help us pay our mortgages, over our government to give us money, or cause our insurance to pay something on our behalf. What if we broke it down to what we really need and ask God for THAT? Food? Clothing? Shelter? Matthew 6, Jesus did promise that he would take care of those things for you. Scripture doesn’t say God will help you save your house or your job.

I am not saying God sent the Coronavirus. I don’t know. I am just saying anyone who says that they DO know, either heard it directly from God, or they are guessing. Scripture DOES NOT SAY that God will never send a plague.

When we are in the midst of this unprecedented plague, instead of making up things that sound hopeful, what we should do, is spend time on our knees doing an inventory and wondering whether we are right with God instead of assuming that we are.

In a nation that has murdered 60 million unborn Americans, in a state where ONE city has 60,000 of its residents living on the streets, in a world where more than 600,000 victims are trafficked across international border and their average age is 13, we should expect and anticipate a plague.

Unless you have a Word from God himself, saying, “Nah, you’re good, this Coronavirus is not from me”, you better re-check your scriptures and see how a Holy and righteous God deals with a population who fails to care for their most vulnerable. It is not a mystery, it is in scripture.
